Berkmar Principal to Move to Archer High
Gwinnett County Public Schools approved three new principals to replace retirees; Arcado Elementary Assistant Principal Mary Thomas will head Pharr Elementary starting in June.
Ken Johnson will be leaving Berkmar High School to become principal of Archer High School, Gwinnett County Public Schools said Thursday in announcing three replacements for retiring principals.
Mary Thomas, assistant principal at Arcado Elementary, will lead Pharr Elementary, GCPS said in a press release. Peggy Goodman, principal at Gwin Oaks Elementary, will lead Five Forks Middle School.
The appointments were approved Thursday at the district's monthly meeting and are effective June 1.

Johnson has been at Berkmar since 1997 and has been principal there since 2004. He will take over from Dr. Charles “Buck” Buchanan, who is retiring.
Thomas has been at Arcado, in the Parkview cluster, since 2006. She also has served as assistant principal at Craig and Nesbit elementary schools. She replaces Jerry Raymond at Pharr.

Goodman leaves Gwin Oaks after serving as principal there since 2006. She is replacing Mary Hensien, who is retiring. Before coming to GCPS in 2000, Goodman worked in Fulton County Public Schools and in two school districts in Alabama.
