What YOU put online...STAYS online!

Be careful what you say...ONLINE

Are you a leader? Are you looking for a new position in your current company or a new job? Are you involved in teaching at your church... your community... are you considering running for a local political office?

Have you not read enough stories about what happens to folks that put stuff on the World Wide Web?... Brett Favre http://goo.gl/f9t1u... Anthony Weiner, as in “Weinergate” http://goo.gl/f9t1u … Dharun Ravi http://goo.gl/3zNMs ? Have you NOT read the articles about employers, schools etc looking for what you put online?

Business people, community leaders, PARENTS... STOP... In the last few days I have seen a multitude (and I only have 162 “friends”... maybe a lot less after you read this) of credibility destroying, embarrassing, over the good taste edge, and just plain stuff you wouldn’t want your mom to see on my FB home page... from others.

Do you NOT know that what you look at on Socialcam goes to your FB timeline? Do you NOT know after a couple of glasses of wine late in the evening and jumping online you can jeopardize your credibility with clients, prospective employers, your spouse, your minister, your children?

Is the “rush” you get from looking at the incredibly bad taste video (generally sexual) of who knows what, worth it? Sure your “friends” click the thumbs up but what do your customers or your MOM think?

If you want to watch or communicate this stuff... do it via your own web browser (use Google Chrome and the “Incognito” feature and no one will know... sort of). If you have a “friend” you want to share your stuff with (gulp) send them an email. Just like your mom taught you, DON’T... do it in public.

And you can’t get much more public than the World Wide Web.
