Brettscheider Scores First MLS Goal
Former Parkview soccer star Blake Brettscheider still gaining attention with D.C. United.
Former Parkview soccer star Blake Brettschneider, whose quick rise with the D.C. United of Major League Soccer was the subject of a Washington Times feature story last week, scored his first career goal in the MLS in a 4-2 loss to the San Jose Earthquake Saturday night.
Brettschneider scored to tie the game at 2-2.
The former South Carolina standout has continued to be a pleasant surprise with the United his rookie season.

As a supplemental-draft selection the expectations were not high for him to make the club. But his four preseason goals earned him a spot, and his first professional goal in a “friendly” match in a 2-1 loss to Dutch League champion Ajax last month showed that the forward can be a scoring threat.
“Getting minutes is crucial for a player like me, being in and out [of the lineup] sometimes, and especially being younger,” Brettschneider said in the Washington Post article. “Any kind of experience like that is valuable to me. I’m just trying to put good performances in and give them reason to play me again.”
