Burglary Victim Finds Stolen Items, Thieves At Pawn Shop

Inside the Police Reports: A Stone Mountain resident finds his home's stolen items at a Lilburn pawn shop and in car in the parking lot, with the suspects in tow.

A 20-year-old burglary victim found his stolen items and the burglars who took them at a Lilburn pawn shop last month.

According to the police report, the Stone Mountain victim drove to at 4814 Stone Mountain Highway after calling various pawn shops to see if any of his missing items had been sold.

When he arrived, he spotted his stolen television in the shop. He explained his situation to the manager, who directed him to the two men he had bought it from. The men, 21 and 22, were in the shop's parking lot and were already talking to Gwinnett Police officers about another situation.

The victim told his story to police. The officers, who had already searched the suspects' car, showed the car's contents to the victim: an Xbox, a controller, 10 videogames, computer speakers, a laptop, two knives, a purse, a graduation ring (which had his name engraved on it), and a shoulder bag.

According to the police report, the victim confirmed the items in the vehicle were his, including a Smirnoff vodka bottle and Jack Daniels bottle also found in the car. The total cost of everything, not including the television, was worth more than $2,500.

According to Crimemapping.com, the burglary occurred at the victim's home July 21 at 1:30 p.m. The pawn shop incident took place the same day around 5:14 p.m.

Police originally stopped the men in their 1995 Buick Riviera because someone had reported that the two had been following him. The original complainant had received a large amount of cash for some jewelry he sold to the pawn shop, and the two men followed him out of the shop and on the road. The suspects eventually drove back to the pawn shop, where police were able to speak with them.

One of the suspects first told police they were trying to find a gas station for a money order so he could pay his probation officer. However, when police pointed at the gas station next to the pawn shop, they said they didn't see it because they're not familiar with the area, even though they both had Stone Mountain addresses.

When police asked what they were doing at the pawn shop, they both said their brother was inside the pawn shop trying to sell a TV. Nobody in the pawn shop matched the name provided, so police decided to search the vehicle. In addition to stolen items, a can of beer and a marijuana joint was found. At around this time was when the burglary victim confronted police about his stolen items.

The men were both arrested for theft by receiving and open container law, in addition to the 21-year-old being also charged for marijuana possession.
