Business Spotlight: Doug Bryson Grading & Hauling

Each week we feature a business from our hometown of Lilburn. This week, learn more about Doug Bryson Grading & Hauling.

Doug Bryson has been in the hauling business for over 30 years in the Lilburn area. Starting out as a driver for a builder, Bryson decided to buy his own truck and start his own business. Over the years Doug has expanded to owning a fleet of trucks that haul fill dirt, top soil and gravel usually within a 50 -75 mile radius of Lilburn. Jeff Maddox, Bryson's right hand man and lifelong friend, runs the dispatch operations for the business. I recently sat down with Doug and Jeff to find out more about their operation.

Patch: What is the best aspect of owning your own grading and hauling business?

Doug: I've enjoyed being in business. In fact I don't know what I'd change about it. My big thing is if we tell someone we're going to do something, we want to do it and we want to make sure that it's done right and that our clients are happy with it.

Patch: What is the most challenging aspect of owning your own business?

Doug: Finding good help.

Jeff: Doug has a lifelong reputation here in the city of Lilburn and if somebody calls, and it happens sometimes, that I'm over here on Killian Hill Rd. and I saw this and I didn't like it. Well Doug's name is on the side of that truck and you're putting his reputation at risk and that won't be tolerated. So we emphasize this to our drivers that they get with the program or they get on down the road.

Patch: What makes Doug Bryson Grading & Hauling unique?

Jeff: We make things personal here more so than in a corporate environment. Doug is personally involved with everything. You don't get that with a lot of businesses  anymore. There seems to be a lot of outsourcing. But this business is personal to him and he takes pride in it. We make sure that everything is right and that you will be satisfied with what we offer.

Patch: What makes the Lilburn community special?

Doug: We've been here so many years. Jeff's been in trucking for forever and we pretty much grew up together. I grew up on Church St. as a child so this is home for us.

Doug Bryson Grading & Hauling is located at 51 Killian Hill Rd. and is open, as Bryson likes to say, until however long it takes to get the job done. For more information call 770-921-0525 or email dougbrysongradinghauling@hotmail.com
