Community Partners Help Support Little Learners During Break

A community partnership is ensuring that children served in the district’s Play 2 Learn program will continue to learn during Winter Break and enjoy healthy snacks, too!

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) recently partnered with the county’s Community Services Department and Goodr to provide snack packs to families whose young children participate in Play 2 Learn. The snack packs are full of kid-friendly food, including snacks like oranges, bananas, Goldfish crackers, and granola bars that were sourced from organizations here in Gwinnett. The bags for each family also included an activity pack developed by Gwinnett County Community Services, a book, and activity sheets from GCPS. The district also checked out tablets so that families would be able to participate in online activities over the break and use the devices for virtual sessions during 2nd semester.

Some 500 children (ages 0-5) participate in GCPS’ Play 2 Learn program at 42 Gwinnett schools. This early childhood initiative helps young children and their parents—a child’s first and best teachers—make the most of their time together to lay a foundation for a lifetime of learning.

Atlanta-based Goodr works with businesses to gather surplus food and distribute it to families experiencing food insecurity through a network of non-profit partners.
