Georgia’s First Lady To Visit Hopkins Elementary

Mrs. Deal to be guest reader as part of the ReadMobile delivery

Due to the collective efforts of the children, faculty and families at Hopkins Elementary, the We Give Books ReadMobile tour is headed to Lilburn this upcoming week.

On Tuesday, May 22, the school will receive more than 500 books and welcome Georgia’s First Lady Sandra Deal as a guest reader.

The “Read for My School" campaign brought an overwhelming response with more than 150,000 books read online in just five days. As a result, books are to be delivered to more than 700 schools before the end of the school year. Hopkins Elementary has scheduled delivery for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, coinciding with the visit from Mrs. Deal.

A press release from Gwinnett County Schools explains that the ReadMobile, hosted by the Pearson Foundation, will be visiting campuses to “recognize readers who are dedicated to improving their own schools and communities.”

This cooperative effort by the Penguin Group and the Pearson Foundation is meant to equip families, classrooms and libraries with both print and online children’s books.

Mrs. Deal, who launched her "Read Across Georgia Campaign" on March 5, said, "We must make a concerted effort to increase the percentage of children reading well and independently at grade-level."
