After moving into first place in the NASL, the Silverbacks have a new face and attacking force to throw at opposing teams. Acquired in a trade last week for Atlanta native Jahbari Willis, veteran goalscorer and Costa Rican international Andy Herron joins the Silverbacks just as the NASL Spring Season championship race is heating up. We caught up with the newcomer on Monday to talk about his move to Atlanta.
On his move to Atlanta:
“It’s very exciting to move to a team that is in first place. I’m looking forward to fighting for the championship in this first part of the season.”

“I’m here to score goals, and with three games left, I want to help the team win this part of season. The important thing is that I’m here and ready to help the team score goals.”

“I think Costa Rica will do well. I’ve worked with the current coach and he is very good. The players are really tuned in, and I hope they make it to the final.”
“2009 was the last Gold Cup I played in, and we lost to Mexico in penalty kicks. So hopefully this time around it goes better and they get to the final and win it.”
Tell Silverbacks fans about yourself:
“Besides being a professional soccer player, I’m just a normal guy. I love my family and I’m a Christian, but most of all I love what I do, which is playing soccer.”
“I’ve been in soccer for 16 years, traveling everywhere from Costa Rica to MLS. I want to help the guys understand that soccer is simple and help some of the forwards and coaching staff with the team.”
“I also want to give the fans something to be excited for, but mostly, I just want to get into my first day of practice this week and focus on playing well.”
Herron could feature for the first time this weekend, as the Silverbacks are set to host the defending NASL champions, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, at Atlanta Silverbacks Park at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Herron played against the Rowdies three times when he was with the Strikers, tallying one goal. To purchase tickets, call 404-969-4900 or visit atlantasilverbacksfc.com.
