Parents and caregivers are important education partners with their child’s school. With the school district’s quarterly AKS at Home initiative, families of students in grades K-5 are able to learn ways to help their children practice the key skills they are learning in language arts and math, whether students are learning at home or at school.

Families with students in grades K-5 can participate in live Zoom sessions—specific to their child’s grade level—or watch recorded sessions. Helpful tipsheets are available online. In 1st semester, close to 4,000 families participated in the online sessions, which are designed to reinforce key skills that students should master for success in core subjects.
The next round of live virtual K-5 sessions is planned for Jan. 25 to Feb. 4 to support learning in the 3rd nine weeks of the year. (See the schedule below.) Each nine weeks, the district rolls out new Zoom sessions and tipsheets to support a key concept for each elementary grade level in the content areas of language arts and mathematics. The sessions are hosted by parent instructional coordinators and parent outreach liaisons who staff Parent Centers in the district’s Title I schools and teachers throughout the districts. Spanish interpretation will be provided. The sessions are open to all GCPS families.
