Gwinnett Firefighters Battle Cold, Burning Cars in Pleasant Hill Rd Fire

A fire apparently erupted while a car was being worked on at a local auto shop.

Gwinnett firefighters battled cold weather conditions and two vehicles on fire during a Wednesday afternoon business fire.

Gwinnett Fire spokesman Tommy Rutledge said crews responded to a call from Dan & Bri Motors at 551 Pleasant Hill Road, where flames were reported shooting out of an automotive bay.

The fire happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire appears to be accidental and related to mechanical work on a vehicle. The mechanic working on the car escaped the fire.

β€œFire crews worked fast and did a great job of stopping the spread of the fire,” Rutledge said in a news release.

The fire was contained to the auto shop; some residual smoke entered an adjoining business.

β€œWe are fortunate that fire crews were able to contain the fire to the area of origin and that the technician was not injured during the incident,” Rutledge said.

Firefighters worked in the cold temperatures to fight the blaze. Steady sleet and snow began falling in the area as firefighters took up hose lines and readied for a continued busy shift.
