Hopkins Elementary Gets a Visit from the ReadMobile and Sandra Deal
Kindergartners spend an exciting day during the last week of school with Georgia's First Lady Sandra Deal.
At Hopkins Elementary, you expect success when students, parents and faculty pull together! Taking part of the “Read for my School” campaign, they were the only school in Georgia to reach that maximum of 500 books.
Their prize was 500 free books from the Pearson Foundation for the school delivered via the ReadMobile on May 22.
As part of the celebration, Georgia’s First Lady, Sandra Deal, read books to kindergartners throughout the day. Mrs. Deal read “Ladybug Girl” and “The Bug Squad” to the more than 300 kindergarten students from 14 classes who were excited to be part of the day. The “Bug Squad Pledge” was led by a VIP in each of the 2 sessions in which the students recited their promise to read. Area superintendent Jonathan Patterson and Louise Radloff helped with the presentations in the first session and Lilburn’s Mayor Johnny Crist, helped out in the second.

The classes participated in an art project and at the end of the session, students were presented with a hardcopy version of the book read to their class.
Mrs. Deal, who launched her "Read Across Georgia Campaign" on March 5, said, "We must make a concerted effort to increase the percentage of children reading well and independently at grade-level."
