How Many GHSA Basketball Titles Will Gwinnett Teams Win?

Gwinnett County can land five state basketball championships this weekend in Macon.

That’s pretty impressive, but it’s hardly unusual in these parts.

Gwinnett has won five titles in the same season twice before (2010 and ’11), and four crowns on two other occasions.

Since 2000, Gwinnett has won 39 GHSA basketball championships, an average of almost three per year.

Gwinnett championship contenders (all finals at Macon Centreplex):

Wesleyan girls: The Lady Wolves beat Laney 68-64 in the Class 2A semifinal, and will play for their seventh straight state championship Friday at 3 p.m. against Kendrick in Macon.

• Greater Atlanta Christian boys: The Spartans beat Laney 66-58 to reach the boys Class 2A final. They will play Calhoun Friday at 4:45 p.m. in Macon.
• Archer girls: The Lady Tigers beat Lowndes 78-67 in Class 6A, and will play McEachern Saturday at 7 p.m.
• Buford boys: The Wolves beat Callaway 92-76 to advance in Class 3A. They will play Morgan County Saturday at 4:45 p.m. in Macon.
• Buford girls: The Lady Wolves beat Pike County 63-46 and will play St. Pius Saturday at 3 p.m.
