Lilburn City Council Approves Construction Agreements, Tables Zoning Ordinance
Traffic, construction, and elections were on the agenda at the Lilburn City Council Meeting Monday.

Tired of traffic at the intersection of Killian Hill and Arcado? City officials approved an agreement with Gwinnett County for upgraded mast arm signal poles, added turn lanes, modified traffic signals, sidewalks, and drainage improvements at the intersection of Killian Hill Road and Arcado Road. The city agreed to make a lump sum payment to the county in an amount not to exceed $50,000 from 2009 SPLOST funds.
The Main Street realignment project continues to take shape as the mayor and council approved the Main Street Realignment Construction Agreement between the City of Lilburn and Gwinnett County. The city agreed to provide engineering and other necessary professional services needed for construction of the road with a maximum contribution by Gwinnett County not to exceed $645,690.63. City officials approved to use extra SPLOST money to continue the sidewalks on Hillcrest road. The sidewalk will be expanded until the money runs out.

A decision to amend the City of Lilburn Zoning Resolution by replacing Appendix A “Zoning” in its entirety was tabled. Lilburn city officials have written a new appendix in order to make it clearer and more concise by using common-sense language. New definitions, tables, codes, and updates were proposed for residential, commercial, town center development, and mixed‐use development city‐wide. Click here to see the plan. The council will revisit the issue in October and urges citizens to make suggestions to the 200-page plan.
Police Department Captain Mike Johnson thanked city officials and the city of Lilburn for supporting his family with the in August. He also accepted a commendation from the city for Doug Bryson, who aided the fire station in putting out a fire at an abandoned building in May. The fire trucks were unable to get in to put out the fire until Bryson used his earth moving equipment to move concrete barriers. Together they were able to prevent property damage near the Greenway trail.

B.J. Pak announced a meeting on Nov. 1 to address concerns about the boundary redistricting to state, congressional, local, and school board representatives. New maps are being drawn up that will affect representation at all levels. The meeting will also address the TSPLOST referendum for next year that will add a one cent tax increase for infrastructure projects.
City officials reminded voters that early/absentee voting will be held Monday, Oct. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. General elections will be held Nov. 8.
