Lilburn Idols and Superstars - The McHans
A look at a very special family's love of music.
Some families are born to sing ... sort of like the Von Trapp family, but without Julie Andrews and drapery-inspired clothing. Laura McHan and her three daughters are just that kind of talent.
A couple of years ago, the McHans spent the evening at Lilburn Idol; Laura asked the girls afterward if they would like to one day sing in the competition. A resounding "yes" made it a goal. Last year they missed the deadline; this year, however, Mr. McHan made sure the calendar was marked and entry was made before the deadline.
"None of us have ever done anything like this before," Laura says. They have all been active in church choirs and performed a few solos, but nothing like Idol. When the girls were younger, they joined the church's Cherub Choir mostly "to get to know the other children better" and have continued to sing at Trinity Lutheran Church.

"There is just something very musical abour our church," Laura says. "Half of the congregation is involved in some capacity in our music program."
She credits the dedication of their music director, Rick Kilgore and his wife Leah Dee Kilgore. "We are blessed to have them as members of Trinity!"

Though all of the girls have beautiful voices, Sarah, a 5th Grader at Camp Creek Elementary, seems to have a passion for singing and writing songs. Laura hopes that the leap of faith at taking the Lilburn stage on the 29th will be a spark that shapes her future.
Laura and Faith, who is Sarah's twin, competed on the June the 8th. Laura is moving on to the finale. Sarah will perform in this Friday's Idol II along with little sister Caroline, who will be in 1st Grade this year.
Good luck to all of the McHans and thank you for sharing your talent with Lilburn!
