Lilburn Pair Wins Southeast Emmy
Alex Middleton and Steven Walker, both seniors at Berry College in Rome, were part of a trio that won with their student-produced comedy show.

Alex Middleton and Steven Walker, both from Lilburn, and Thomas Yungerberg of Canton — all seniors at Berry College in Rome — recently won a Southeast Emmy for the student-produced comedy show, “The Conference Room.”
The trio produce, write and star in the show broadcast on Viking Fusion, a student-run website that is home to videos, text stories, photo galleries, podcasts and blogs.
The show’s seventh episode won in the category of Outstanding Achievement: Student Production Excellence Category.

The 2011 Southeast Emmy Awards, hosted by the National Academy of Televison Arts & Sciences, was held in Atlanta on June 18.
“Most of the submissions are news-based, so we didn’t know if our show really fit or if they would find it funny or understand it, but it turns out they did,” Walker said in a press release from Berry College.

Last year, the show won the best comedy award by College Broadcasters Inc. at the National College Media Convention in Austin, Texas.
In the press release, Walker said he believes the show’s comedy appeals to a diverse audience.
“It doesn’t just appeal to the Berry community,” he said. “It has broad humor so that everyone can find it funny. It continues to appeal to a large audience. It also just keeps getting better. As freshmen, we were just fooling around on a camera. Now the quality is so much higher.
“All of Viking Fusion’s stuff is good enough to be entered,” Walker added. “It’s all very reflective of Berry, showing what we have learned and how we work.”
