Lilburn Student Wins Scholarship at Berry College

Alisha Dosani has been named a 2012 Kirbo Scholar by the Council on Student Scholarship at Berry College.

Berry senior Alisha Dosani of Lilburn was one of three Berry College students to earn a scholarship for specific projects, the college said.

The three students have been named 2012 Kirbo Scholars by The Council on Student Scholarship for their various project proposals in their undergraduate area of study.

This annual scholarship awards up to $1,250 to Berry students related to academic research or experience through internships, study abroad, or artistic endeavors.

Sophomores Vidhya Patel of Smyrna and Ethan Purser, of Rockmart were the other two Kirbo Scholars. The three will begin work on their projects this semester while working under the direction of faculty advisors.

Dosani was awarded $1,250 and will work with Marketing Professor Nancy Albers-Miller while researching, “Eco-friendly Marketing in the Cosmetics Industry.” Patel was awarded $1,204 and will work with Associate Professor of Sociology Sarah Allred while researching, “Working Poor in India: Shadowing the Experiences of a Family in Poverty.” Purser was awarded $935 and will work with Economics Professor Frank Stephenson as he researches, “Pitcher Pay and Performance during the Moneyball Years.”

Each scholar must complete their project by the end of their senior year with plans to present their research at the annual Symposium on Student Scholarship. Kirbo Scholars must be full-time students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must display a strong volunteer or work ethic, have completed 24 hours of credit at Berry, and have the endorsement of a faculty member.
