Lilburn Teams Get Swept Out of State Playoffs (With Video)
None of the area's four teams in the tournament reached the second round.
Lilburn took an O-fer in the state basketball tournament over the weekend, with all four teams losing in the first round.
In boys games, Berkmar lost a heart-breaking 57-56 decision at home to Roswell in Class AAAAA, and Providence Christian fell hard 72-44 at No. 1 Wilkinson County in Class A.
In girls games, both in Class AAAAA, Parkview lost 46-36 at home to Milton and Berkmar lost 46-33 at Roswell.

The most notable loss was the one by Berkmar’s boys. The Patriots were the Region 8-AAAAA champion and, based on the brackets, appeared to have a legitimate chance to make a run.
But Roswell sophomore Sean Brennan was nearly unstoppable and the Patriots found themselves in too big of a deficit (13 points) in the fourth quarter to come all the way back.

“It’s a disappointing way to end,” Berkmar coach Greg Phillips said. “But every team but one ends its season with a loss. Unfortunately for us, it was tonight [Saturday].”
The Patriots ended their season with a 20-8 record.
“This doesn’t take away from the season. We had a great season. These guys worked so hard,” Phillips said. “We’re going to get back in the weightroom and in the offseason we’re going to work even harder to take another step next season.”
Parkview’s girls, the No. 2 seed from Region 8-AAAAA, fell to lower-seeded Milton, but the Eagles were semifinalists last year and gave Parkview one of the state’s toughest first-round draws.
The Panthers (22-6) started only one senior, Katie Carroll.
“To come as far as we’ve come, from where we were at the beginning of the season, was great,” Parkview coach Mike McCoy said. “I just wish we had a few more games to play to see how much better they could be.”
