You Can't Judge a Bean by It's Color

Trickum Middle School wins LWC Ripple Effect Scholarship for Jelly Bean Diversity Project

GFWC Lilburn Woman's Club President Barbara Brooks, along with members Gloria Sill and Patty Gabilondo, presented the club's third Ripple Effect scholarship award to Trickum Middle School leaders Barbara Mahon, Kay Sands and Nicole Irish this morning for their Jelly Bean Diversity project. Diversity Beans are red, orange, yellow, green, black, white and come in a variety of flavors, but don't try to determine the flavor of these beans by looking at their color -- you'll never be able to guess. The exercise helps students understand that this candy is just like people -- you can't determine what is on the inside by simply looking at the outside.

The GFWC Lilburn Woman's Club created the Ripple Effect Scholarship last year hoping to engage local students and teachers and tangibly show how one simple act of kindness can create a positive ripple effect in our community. Application forms are available on the club's website at www.lilburnwomansclub.org. No ideas are too small to have a positive impact.
