Mountain Park Elementary Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

Students promote living a healthy and drug-free life

The hallways of Mountain Park Elementary School were adorned with lots of ribbons and student artwork this week to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s oldest and largest drug-prevention campaign.

Students and teachers decorated the school with this year’s Love Yourself. Be Drug Free. theme. It is all part of the National Family Partnership’s annual Red Ribbon Week that inspires families, schools and communities to get involved with drug education.

David Young, guidance counselor at Mountain Park, said Red Ribbon Week is a great way to discuss the dangers of drugs in an age appropriate way.

“The kids had a great time participating in such a positive event, and they really showed their enthusiasm at the Red Ribbon Week Rally that the school sponsored this week.”

The rally featured “Chopper” and Manager Brian Snitker from the minor league Gwinnett Braves baseball team. Students were also given prizes for essays and artwork completed during the week long celebration.
