No One Hurt As Car Rams Into Gwinnett Home

The car crashed through a basement wall of a Norcross-area home, forcing the occupants out as experts check to see if the house is safe.

No one was hurt when a car crashed into a Gwinnett County house Saturday morning, but the structure will need to be examined before the residents are allowed back in.

Gwinnett Fire responded at 8:21 a.m. to the damaged house in the 1200 block of Riva Ridge Drive -- in an unincorporated area between the cities of Norcross and Lilburn.

“According to a witness, the vehicle left the roadway and hit a fence before crashing through the basement wall. Neither the driver, nor the occupants inside the house at the time were injured,” Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutldge said in an email.

“The vehicle damaged a load-bearing support in an unfinished basement, crawl-space area, and compromised the structural integrity. The structure was deemed unsafe by firefighters and was taped-off as a precaution.”

The occupants were displaced by the accident and were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

“The home will need to be assessed by a structural engineer before the occupants are able to return,” Rutledge said.

The scene was handed over to Gwinnett Police for further investigation into what caused the car to leave the road.
