Parkview Sweeps Peachtree Ridge, Advances to Baseball's Final 8

The Panthers will play Colquitt County in the next round of the Georgia High School Association playoffs.

Parkview High School's took a big step in its quest for three straight state baseball championships.

The Panthers swept Gwinnett County rival Peachtree Ridge Wednesday in Lilburn in the second round of the Class AAAAAA playoffs.

The Panthers, the Region 8-AAAAAA champs, beat Peachtree Ridge 3-2 and 4-2 in the Wednesday double-header, according to the Georgia High School Association website.

According to Facebook accounts from the Gwinnett Daily Post, Josh Hart hit a three-run home run in the first game, and Ryan Blanton and Jarrett Hood had two-run homers in the second game for Parkview.

Parkview advances to the quarterfinals to play Colquitt County in a best-of-three series, beginning next Tuesday, May 14. According to brackets posted on the GHSA website, that best-of-three series will be played at Parkview High School.

Colquitt swept Luella 5-4 and 3-2, also Wednesday.

Parkview won Class AAAAA titles in 2012 and 2011.

Also Wednesday:

  • Providence Christian, the defending Class A champ, split with George Walton Academy, falling 4-1 in the first game, but winning the second 5-3. The two teams will play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday to decide which will advance to the semifinals.
