Patch Picks: 5 Read-Aloud Books to Consider

Everywhere in the U.S., it is now Read Across America time. We at Patch love reading (and hope you do, too), and we love books.

So, for this week’s Patch Picks we thought it super appropriate to highlight good reads.

With the help of Meg Wilson, manager at the Gwinnett Public Library Mountain Park branch, here are five great read-aloud book choices for young and not-so-young readers.

(All are available at the Mountain Park library, by the way).

“Bark, George,” by Jules Feiffer: A puppy named George can make animal sounds, except a dog’s. A picture book aimed at ages 2 and up.

“Wild About Books,” by Judy Sierra: Everyone deserves to read, even crickets, giraffes and otters. Animals are wild about reading, too. For preschool to Grade 2

“Mercy Watson to the Rescue,” by Kate DiCamillo: The first of the Mercy Watson books about the adventures of Mercy the pig. For Kindergarten to Grade 2.

“Scaredy Squirrel,” by Melanie Watt: Out of fear, Scaredy the squirrel never leaves the tree. Then one day everything changes when he finds him outside and facing the unknown. For Grades 1-3.

“Artemis Fowl,” by Eoin Colfer: The first book in the magical adventures of 12-year-old Artemis Fowl. Geared toward readers 9-12.
