Road Closed in Lilburn After Workers Hit Gas Line

Gwinnett Police have closed part of Hewatt Road.

LILBURN, GA -- Part of Hewatt Road in Lilburn was closed Wednesday after construction workers struck a main gas line.

Gwinnett County Police said several homes had been evacuated while crews try to fix the a six-inch break in the gas main.

Because of the line break, Hewatt Road, from Bruckner Boulevard to Martin Nash Road, was shut down, police said.

In a post on Twitter, police said it was expected to take four hours to repair the break.

"Expect delays in the area through the rush hour," the post said.

They announced the closure at about 4:15 p.m.
