Schools: 10 Lilburn High School Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

Eight seniors from Parkview High School and one each from Parkwood Christian Academy and TNT Academy have a chance at the National Merit Scholarship.

Ten seniors from Lilburn high schools were among the chosen semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship.

Ross P. Cunningham, Tami M. Feng, Samuel L. Gowland, James R. Jordan, Jamie M. Morsberger, Amanda S. Nabors, Dakota Taggart and Caleb N. Younger were the semifinalists from .

Sean L. McBane was named from Parkwood Christian Academy and Andrew M. Jamagin from TNT Academy.

The 10 were among some 16,000 - less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors - chosen from about 1.5 million applicants around the U.S.

About 90 percent of the 16,000 probably will reach finalist status, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. said in a release, with more than half of them winning the Merit Scholar title and a scholarship.

Scholarships worth more than $34 million will be awarded in the spring, the corporation said. Winners will be announced starting in April.
