Scouts Collect Donated Food is Big Success

Boy Scouts from Gwinnett and Walton Counties collected and donated food to local pantries and co-ops.

Dateline December 15, 2015

This past Friday, boy scouts from Gwinnett and Walton Counties gathered for an annual fun filled camping weekend at Scoutland on Lake Lanier known as “Yule Log”. The event is hosted by scouting service organization known as the Alcovy Oldtimers. A total of nearly 800 boy scouts and adult scouting leaders conducted event activities and experienced great fellowship. As in years past, the boys were asked to collect and provide donated food for local pantries. Each Boy Scout troop competed with one another to collect the most. These troops operate in the Sweetwater and Apalachee districts for the NE Georgia Council. This group collected a whopping total of nearly 21,500 cans and packages of food. The leading unit is Troop 509 of the Lilburn Christian Church. This group was treated to pizza for lunch on Saturday (pictured here). These food donations were made to the Lawrenceville & Lilburn Food Co-ops and the Pantry at Hamilton Mill. Once again the scouts have done an outstanding job and all should be congratulated.
