S.T.E.M. Camp- Killian Hill Christian School

The Killian Hill 2014 COUGARTECH STEM Camp is being offered to students entering the sixth grade through the eighth grade in the 2014-2015 school year. The camp will be from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm each day. Campers will spend half of each day investigating, designing, and creating robotic applications utilizing LEGO© Mindstorms robotic kits. The other half of each day will have campers being introduced to web design using the web design programming code HTML. Students will design and create their own web page and be given a flash drive to store the design for the purpose of uploading to a web host of their choosing.

There will be a break each day where campers will be given snacks and have an opportunity to work on their own on their robotic creation or web page.

Each camper will receive a T-shirt as a remembrance of the camp.

Lego Robotics

Campers will build robots with included touch, color and IR sensors. Campers will learn to program the robots using the logic learned in computer sessions, then have their creations compete in various challenges!

Data Collection

State of the art data collection devices from Vernier software will be utilized to measure and analyze real data just like real Scientists!

Web Design

Most web pages are created using HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) code. Hypertext is a database system where objects, such as texts and images, can be linked. HTML uses a set of codes to “mark up” plain text so that browsers know how to interpret the text. Campers will learn the basic design and logic of web page creation using the HTML code. Campers will learn how to plan, design, program code and troubleshoot their own web page. Campers will be given a Flash drive so that their work can be saved and transferred to a web host of their choosing.
