Surgery-Free Canine Neutering

A revolutionary new way to sterilize male dogs has arrived.  Until recently, the only way to ensure your male dog could not impregnate a female dog and add to the pet overpopulation problem, was to have his testicles surgically removed.  This required a trip to a veterinary clinic or shelter so the dog could be placed under general anesthesia to have the surgery performed.  However, for various reasons, some pet owners are not comfortable with the idea of putting their dog under anesthesia and removing his testicles.

The scientists at Ark Sciences (www.arksciences.com), in an effort to increase the number of neutered dogs and therefore reduce the number of pets in shelters, developed the drug Zeuterin.  Zeuterin is the only drug FDA approved for nonsurgical canine neutering.  Nonsurgical neutering works by injecting the Zeuterin into each testicle. A single injection into each testicle will render to dog sterile within 30 days, is 99.6% effective, and is irreversible. Here is a video demonstrating the procedure.

Zeuterin is a solution of zinc gluconate and arginine which works by destroying the sperm inside the testicle and causing scar tissue to develop in the tubes which carry the sperm. The injection is pain-free and is done under a light sedative.

Only veterinarians who have been trained and certified by Ark Sciences are allowed to perform the procedure and Lilburn veterinarian Star Gregory, owner of Zutilla Veterinary Housecalls, has been certified to administer the drug.  Dr. Gregory will be offering an in-home surgery-free neuter day on Tuesday, October 22 to anyone who would like to take advantage of this new procedure.
