Viewfinder: Parkview Razzle Dazzle Too Much for South Gwinnett

Thanks to some creative offensive trick plays, Parkview was able to cruise to a 20 - 7 win over South Gwinnett and become undefeated in region play.

Parkview made their first regional road trip of the season to face the Comets of South Gwinnett at the Richard Snell Community stadium in Snellville.

The Comets were coming fresh off of a big 63-55 win over the Central Gwinnett Black Knights. The Comets, led by QB Mason Hart, who is playing in place of the injured Jordan Ramey, hoped to continue their high-scoring offense at home against the Panthers. Unfortunately, the Comet offense was stymied by the tough Parkview defense led by Kyle Williams and Brian Miller who came up big for injured senior linebacker, Patrick Flowe.

After a scoreless first quarter, South Gwinnett running back Travon Davis (12) scored on a option play in the second quarter to put South up 7 to 0. Parkview answered right back when QB Jack Esmonde hit Jordan Reid on a five yard touchdown. Parkview missed the extra point and South Gwinnett took the lead in to halftime, 7-6.

On Parkview's second possession of the second half, it appeared that Parkview Coach Cecil Flowe went into his bag of tricks and gave the South Gwinnett defense some early Halloween treats. Out of the wildcat formation, QB Jack Esmonde moved to wideout and caught a beautiful 30 yard pass from running back Rob Youngblood. The play tricked the entire South Gwinnett defense.

A few plays later, Chris Carson scored on a short run and TE Colby Smith nabbed a three yard pass for the two point conversion and Parkview took the lead 14 to 7. South failed to score on the succeeding possessions and Parkview went to the trick bag one more time with QB Jack Esmonde throwing a short pass to wideout Jordan Reid, who in turn threw a 25-yard pass to wide receiver Keanu Mole.

Following the big pass play, Chris Carson scored on another short run. The Panthers missed the extra point and took control of the lead and the game, avenging last year's 37 to 16 loss and beat South Gwinnett 20-7.

Parkview is now 2-0 in region with big wins over South Gwinnett and Shiloh. They return home next week to play their Homecoming game against Berkmar.
