Walmart Security Officer Shot and Killed in Lilburn
J.D. Ferguson, 25, was trying to stop a shoplifter from stealing televisions, police say.
LILBURN, GA -- Police are searching for a man they say shot and killed a Walmart security officer Sunday night during a failed shoplifting attempt.
Jaseramie Dion "J.D." Ferguson, 25, was attempting to stop a suspect leaving the Walmart, at 4004 Lawrenceville Hwy. in Lilburn, with three flat-screen television sets that he hadn't purchased, police said.
Police were called to the scene at about 9:10 p.m.

They say that when Ferguson and another employee tried to detain the suspect, a struggle ensued and the suspect pulled a .380-caliber pistol, shooting Ferguson.
He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, but pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The suspect, who ran away, is described as a black male, about 5-foot-9, with a medium build and a bald or shaved head. He appeared to be in his mid-30s and was wearing a grey, denim button-down shirt and dark pants.
The suspect also was seen driving away in an older model dark red, four-door sedan. Early reports are that the car is possibly a Saturn or Honda, but that has not been confirmed.
