Will Parkview, PCA Add Lilburn State Titles?

The boys soccer and baseball teams at Parkview High School and Providence Christian Academy all challenge for Georgia High School Association gold.

They don't call Lilburn the City of Champions for nothing.

, and have combined to win or share 55 Georgia High School Association state championships.

It's a remarkable number considering most of the hardware has been won over the past 20 years.

Our local teams are at it again this week, with the boys soccer and teams from Parkview and Providence Christian still alive in their respective playoffs. All four teams will be in action Tuesday night.

Here's a brief look.

-- Parkview's baseball team begins a best-of-three series in the Class AAAAA quarterfinals at Hillgrove High School in Cobb County. A double-header is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at Hillgrove, with Game 3 (if needed) scheduled at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

have easily swept its first two playoff opponents, Collins Hill and Tift County. The Panthers beat Tift 14-1, and 4-3 in the second round last week. Pitchers Matt Olson and Jesse Foster are both undefeated for the Panthers (25-5).

-- Parkview plays in the Class AAAAA boys soccer semifinals at Centennial, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Panthers, who have won six state titles in their history, advanced with a 3-2 overtime victory over 2011 state champ Walton.

If it wins Tuesday, Parkview (16-3-2) will play the winner of Brookwood-Collins Hill Friday in the final.

--Providence Christian's baseball plays at top-ranked Hebron Christian in Dacula in the Class A quarterfinals. The series begins with a double-header Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. The third game, if needed, is scheduled for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The Stars, who beat Landmark Christian and Gordon-Lee in the first two rounds, . With a 21-10 record, Providence has won nine of its last 10 games.

--Providence's third-ranked boys soccer team plays at No. 4 Aquinas in the Class A semifinals Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Stars, , are 12-8 after a 2-0 win over Savannah Christian last week. .
