Woman Struck, Killed By Garbage Truck in Lilburn

Police say the woman had walked her child to a bus stop on Wednesday morning.

LILBURN, GA — A Lilburn woman was killed Wednesday morning when she was hit by a garbage truck after walking her child to a school bus stop.

Lilburn Police say Lidia Riveas-Martinez, 41, had walked her child to the stop for Hopkins Elementary and was returning home when she walked into the path of a garbage truck that was backing up.

The incident happened at 7:26 a.m. in front of 5140 Burns Rd., a residence between Dickens Road and Westover Circle.

Riveas-Martinez was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where she died from her injuries.

Police say no drugs or alcohol were involved and that the truck's safety equipment was functioning properly. They do not anticipate any charges against the driver.
