1 Killed, 1 Injured in Morning Wreck in Walton County

The Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened Friday morning on Hwy 11.

One man is dead and another injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday morning in Walton County, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Jonathan Kelly, 31, of Monroe, died at the scene; he was a passenger in a Honda Civic that was involved in the wreck, the state patrol said.

Troopers said Kelly was the passenger in a 1996 Civic driven by Joshua Caudell that was travelling behind a 2003 Ford Expedition “at a high rate of speed” on northbound Hwy 11 around 6 a.m.

“The Civic struck the Expedition with its front, left headlight. After impact, the Civic left the roadway, rotated, and struck a tree. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt,” the state patrol said in a statement.

Caudell, from Monroe, was injured in the crash and taken to Athens Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the Expedition was not injured.

Charges are pending as a follow-up investigation is completed.
