5 Tips for a New Line Dancer

A beginners guide to line dancing. Five top tips to help new line dancer become comfortable with learning how to line dance

Every Adventure Requires a First Step...

And you’ve decided to learn how to dance.

Line dancing is an excellent choice for new dancers because you don’t need any experience and it’s fun. To get you started here are my 5 Top Tips for getting started.

1) Don’t Be Too Serious. Keep it light. Attitude is everything. Expect to make mess up and make mistakes. It’s ok. If you’re messing up that means you’re learning. Just don’t get frustrated. Remember, line dancing is about having a good time. Besides, no one else will know that you made a mistake unless you tell them.

2) Come to Class. You have to come to class regularly because you will practice what you learned the class prior. The only way to remember the sequence of steps is to practice. The more you practice the easier the dance becomes and the better you will get.

3) Wear Comfortable Shoes and Clothing. Heels, flip flops or sandals are not the best choice. I always recommend wearing flat comfortable shores, sneakers or dance shoes.

4) Ask Questions. Don’t be afraid to ask the instructor questions. My main goal as an instructor is to make sure everyone gets the steps and to leave no one behind. I personally walk through each step in the dance to ensure you learn the move. If a move is giving you trouble, ask the instructor to demonstrate it again. I promise you’re not the only person in class that need to see the move one more time.

5) Don’t Rush. Like anything in life, some dances will come quick and easy and other will take some time to master. With a patience and plenty of practice you’ll find yourself getting better and moving from beginner to improver in no time.
