Here are the top five stories in Loganville-Grayson today:
- Former Gwinnett District Attorney, Danny Porter, outlined Georgia law in the Rayshard Brooks case. Porter asserted that a taser can be considered a deadly weapon. The law quoted identifies situations that enable officers to use deadly force. Officer Brosnan said that Brooks used the taser multiple times while his target was running away. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Nearby Lawrenceville is celebrating a successful first year of its police and mental health co-responder program. The Lawrenceville Police Department and View Point Health handled nearly 900 crisis calls between Jul. 1, 2021 and Jun. 30, 2022. Ultimately, they arrested less than a dozen people. - Gwinnett County has reached a formal agreement to use Lake Lanier water as a water supply. Although the county has always used the water, it has never had a formal agreement to do so. County commissioners approved a 30-year Water Storage Agreement with the state of Georgia, granting the county long-term rights to the state's storage volume as a water supply. - Georgia Tech defensive end Kevin Harris, who had been a four-star prospect at Grayson High, transferred from Alabama after not playing in 2020. Harris was rated the No. 123 player nationally in the 2019 class and the No. 15 player in Georgia. When he is on the field, Harris shows speed, strength, and explosiveness. - Ninety-six Shell Stations across Atlanta have launched "The Giving Pump" to offer consumers the opportunity support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta with a portion of their gas costs. Running from Aug. 1 through Oct. 31, Loganville and Grayson residents can support the clubs in Gwinnett County. (Shell)

- The Walnut Grove Public Library is now offering a new service: Azalea After Hours. Patrons are now able to pick up books and other library materials after hours. (Walnut Grove Public Library via Facebook)
- Archer High School hosting a community giveaway on Friday, Aug. 26 at the school's practice field. The giveaway will include clothing, household items, personal items, and other miscellaneous items.
