UPDATE - 07/03/2013 - The Grayson Farmers Market has been cancelled for today. We waited as long as we could, hoping for a window of sunshine to open the market, no matter how briefly, to the community, but the weather models as of noon show the heaviest showers and possibility of thunderstorms starting right at the 4:00 p.m. mark. Grayson's Mayor Hinkle stated concerns for the safety of the vendors and the patrons and asked that we cancel the market for the day.
We hope to see each of you next week - and hope that you will patron these vendors at either the Lilburn Farmers Market on Friday or the Snellville Farmers Market on Saturday morning to support their efforts to bring the freshest locally grown produce to our community.
It is amazing how large our little market has grown in the past 4 weeks ... Grayson truly does love its fresh produce and local products!
We're getting into the height of some of the summer produce now. You're going to be seeing some Silver King Corn, along with the squash, cucumbers and tomatoes that have been abundant at the market. Potatoes? You bet! We made hashbrowns with fresh potatoes and onions last week that were pretty amazing ... then we added some of Blue Moon's garlic and herb goat cheese on the top and it was, well, pretty spectacular!
Heading out to get ready for your July 4th Celebration? For sure, check out the fresh produce, but don't forget the grilling opportunities afforded by B&G Farms and Carrell Farms. Those sausages and Italian sausages on the grill are the BEST ... and then there's bacon ... for everything! You'll need rubs and spices to make your ribs the best ever, and then of course the salsas and chow-chow to put on top of - I dunno - EVERYTHING!
Lots of local families are part of our market - from both the vendor and the visitor side of the sidewalk! We love seeing the same families come each week to the market to spend time in Grayson and those food trucks, popsicles, kettlecorn and shaved Italian ice make it so much easier to beat the heat while you're walking around the park. This week, we're excited to bring not only the Mac the Cheese and/or the Atlanta Burger Truck to Grayson, our very on Yum Yum Bakery will bring their truck home for Wednesdays.
We're watching the weather very closely this week as forecasts look ominous, but we're hopeful that we'll get to get at least a few hours of shopping done before the heavy stuff hits our area. We hope to see you at the market!
