I believe inspiration is like a burning candle inside of you. The more inspired you are, the more brightly your candle shines. It is as if just standing in awe of inspiration, you breathe in that energy that fuels the fire.
Case in point, when you are feeling content + happy, do you find that your mood can be “doused” by negativity, or maybe by the proverbial “wet blanket?” Likewise, when you see something that resonates with you, do you feel your light shine a little brighter as you pursue what is near and dear to you?
In my past, I have lost some dear friends when I let negativity take over my life and I, myself, felt swallowed into a pit of despair. But YOU can lift yourself out! You can change your life. [Check yourself if you are making a sarcastic comment here. ;)]
Here is a list of ways you can find inspiration + grow the flame of contentment [happiness is fleeting but contentment is ongoing] in your soul:
1. Be a good samaritan. Give to someone who is in need or can’t help themselves.
2. Read something inspiring or spiritual. Turn off the electronics! Give up the Facebook news feeds, television and radio shows that create drama in your life. Keep the space for the good stuff!
3. Listening to uplifting + positive music.
4. Surround yourself with positive people. Likewise, put some space between you and the negatives. Reality check: if you ARE the negative, positive people won’t want to be around you as you will be their “wet blanket.” So what to do? First, accept the situation as it is. Come to peace with it. You can’t wallow -- it will not help you move forward. Find gratitude in the things that are good in + around you. Then SURROUND yourself with positive people!
5. Create a vision board or write a bucket list. Start making those dreams a possibility.
6. Meditate. Clear space in your mind will give you more space to grow the flame!
7. Smile + breathe. Sometimes just taking a moment to live in the now, is the space you need.
8. Pin-up pictures of inspiring people + yogis in your workspace or on your fridge.
9. Play with kids! Try a home practice with music or with your kids +/or grandkids. See what sparks your creativity.
10. Get in touch with nature. Each of us has a part that speaks to the Earth and Mother Nature is inspiring. Walk through the woods, find some sand + water and stick your toes into it, hike a mountain, or sit around a campfire. All will help ground you and inspire you to go with the flow.
