Email Marketing, What is it?
Email Marketing should be important to anyone who has an online marketing strategy. Just a brief discussion about what email marketing is for me.

I have been spending a lot of time reading and rereading my recent book. This has gotten me to thinking about what everything points to and where your best long term growth for your business is. Which is why I am going to talk a little bit about email marketing. If you were to look at every single model I put together for any of my clients you will find that everything funnels into email marketing. Sure I am giving away a bit of a secret here, but this is important. It is so important that I am going to start working on building an email marketing class that will take place in April.
Well for starters, it is the one thing that every single website owner that has a product or service to sell should be using. But that doesn’t really answer the what… Email Marketing, in my opinion, is utilizing a 3rd party application to email your prospects, current or past customers in order to get them to purchase from you for the first time or again.
Why a 3rd Party app?
The biggest reason I always suggest using a 3rd party application is for tracking. If you send someone an email in outlook or your webmail, you have no clue if they opened it or not. If they did open it, I want to know how many people opened it and if they clicked on any of my links. Then if I have sent emails out over a 3 month period I want to know how many of those people didn’t open the email. Then I want to try to target them with different emails to attempt to get them to open my email and click a link.
The other reason I suggest a 3rd party application is segmenting. If you have a 3rd party app you can set people up into segments such as, past customers, super old customers, loyal customers and people who have never bought a freaking thing from me. How about that for list names? If you have your list segmented then you can tailor your emails to go to each one of these groups of people.
It is about Growth!
Email marketing is a wonderful way to keep your business going and to also grow your business. If you were to be slow in your business and you had an email list of 100 or 10,000 people, then you sent them all a coupon for x amount off. Or if you just got a new product in and sent them all an email, do you think your phone would start ringing? Do you think you might get a few buyers out of 1 email? What if you did that twice a month? Do I have you thinking yet?
Here is what my industry says, each email address is equal to $1, this is for a market that has an average sale of $7 per person. So on average 1 out of 7 people that you send an email to should purchase. Well that is if you have a really good list… I say if you have a list of 100 people and each sale is worth 5k, well then your list is essentially worth $50,000, I lean towards a 1 in 10 purchase rule for a good list.
