How can a Microsite Explode your Business?

Have you always wanted to be on the first page of Google? Have you wondered why some companies own a lot of results? Microsites is one of the ways you can own that front page!

I have been working on a few things lately and have been thinking about extra ways that I can serve my clients needs a little better. One of the things we often over look as part of our SEO strategy is Microsites. Part of that reason is because there are some people that don't want to spend the extra money on putting a microsite up. Because of that I decided that I would run a special on Microsites, which you can read about via the Freskos Media Facebook page or via our email list.

There may be a few of you who are trying to figure out what a microsite is, so let us talk about that first.

What is a Microsite?

A microsite is a website designed and setup for one particular keyword or a keyword group. It's sole purpose is to gain Google ranking quickly and to ultimately funnel traffic back to a main website or to a web form or phone number. Some people call these landing pages or landing sites. But in my opinion they are different. A landing page is a sales only page that is trying to get an end user to take a specific action. These are usually used for ad purposes and usually can't and don't gain any rank in Google. Microsites are designed with text to answer a question about something very specific that the searcher is looking for. A landing page site is mostly graphics, a microsite is more text than graphics.

How can a Microsite Explode your Business?

Well if you are in the top 3 spot on Google for a heavy traffic search term, well needless to say you will end up with traffic coming to your site. If you have traffic coming to your site then they are taking an action on your site, calling or emailing you, then your business will start to grow. Now I will tell you, in heavy markets you will have tons of microsites that are all owned by the same person. They act as little targeted brochures that tell about your business in regards to what that searcher is looking for. Asbestos treatment is one of those heavy saturated market that has tons of smaller websites that act as little brochures for the same company.

What does Google think about Microsites?

Google loves and hates them... First let's talk about the hate portion of this scenario... There was a time, not to long ago where there were so many microsites that it was hard to find what you were looking for online. The reason Google started disliking those sites was because they were setup as ads and no real text to answer the searchers request. These sites ranked in the top ten spots a lot of times. They were setup to get you to that site, then have you click a link, which would then make the site owner 3 to 27 cents per click. If you owned asbestos treatment spots back then, you would have been making 10 to 50 bucks per click... So Google changed their algorithm to bump all of those sites out of the search query results. This was great for searchers and bad for the people who owned those sites. Ultimately Google is trying to give you the best possible answer to what ever it is that it thinks you are searching for.

How does Google love Microsites?

Google loves microsites that have one goal in mind, giving an answer or solution to the person that is  doing that exact search. They also love the graphic microsites or landing pages because people are sending traffic via pay per click ads. But those aren't usually ranked... The ones that are ranked are going after a solution to what ever that person searching is looking for. Which is great when you have that answer! If you have a low bounce rate and you are in that top 10, the more clicks you get and the more people are using your microsite, the better you will continue to rank.

Do I need a Microsite?

If you own the first page of Google for your business and you are satisfied with the amount of traffic you are getting to your website, then I would say no. But if you are needing and wanting more growth, or if you want to own more of the first page of Google then I would say YES! You do need a microsite! Make sure that your regular website is also set up for your keywords as well, so that you can potentially own a couple of spots on the first page!
