Palm Trees for Georgia...
Here's a short informative video about Palms if you are interested in having a tropical look to your garden.. http://youtu.be/DE4p9qF1ezw

If you're wanting to design an area in your yard that has a tropical look but aren't sure about growing Palm trees, I have a video for that! http://youtu.be/DE4p9qF1ezw Late summer is usually the best time to plant Palms in Georgia. Excellent drainage is a must, especially during winter, because they happen to hate wet, cold feet- and will die. Incorporate about 1/3 each of: river sand (or builders sand), top soil and finally, our native clay soil. Water for the first month, every 3 or 4 days, to keep the tiny rootball from drying out, then slowly reduce the amount of water each week. We usually have enough rainfall in the winter. Do not fertilize until the tree has been in the ground for about a year. Place the Palms as accent trees, paying attention to what the mature size will be. Let them be the show-offs of your tropical garden. Wait a year before you plant anything over the top of their tiny root ball. They don't need competition while trying to get established. If you would like to see how we moved the huge palms over a house with a boom truck, without busting the concrete around the pool area, here is another video.. http://youtu.be/EnyXuLsMrrM It's pretty intense to see these 1,000 lb. trees being lifted over a house!
