Rainy Weekend

Wet weekend for Georgia.

I hope you're not looking forward to a weekend to do things outside because it looks like you might be disappointed.

A vigorous low pressure system is forecast to develop in the Gulf of Mexico near Louisiana on Saturday and track northeastward across Georgia. Heavy rains will accompany this system with the possibility of severe thunderstorms to our south. The exact track will determine whether we're in the heavy rain or will just have lighter amounts. Estimated rainfall amounts here.

Had we had more cold air this would have been a very nice track for snowfall at this time of year. A little further south would be better for us, but our neighbors to the north in Virginia and points north will get a decent snowfall out of this system.

We're in a very active pattern right now so expect more systems to track across the south through next week. We could really use the rain since 34% of Georgia is still in an exceptional drought. You can see the drought specifics here.
