Summer activities that can harm your hearing
Hearing Improvement Center of Monroe wishes to prevent noise induced hearing loss with a list of summer time activities which have the potential to harm your hearing.
Hearing Improvement Center of Monroe is as concerned about treating hearing loss as we are about preserving hearing. Noise levels above 85dB have the potential to harm your hearing depending on several factors such as how long you are exposed to those sounds and the frequency of the sounds. Here is a list of summer-time activities which have the potential to harm your hearing.
Jet skis and boating-Noise levels from these fun activities can range from about 90dB (boating) to more than 105dB (jet skis at full throttle). If ear plugs are not available, be sure to limit the time that you are exposed to these dangerous levels.
Motorcycling-By themselves, we all know that motorcycles are loud. When a group of hogs is nearby, the best thing to do if earplugs are not available is to remove yourself from the situation. Luckily, for riders, most helmets have some protection, because even wind noise has the potential to be too loud.

Convertibles-Speaking of wind noise, driving convertible cars can damage your hearing. Between wind noise, road noise, and car noise it all adds up to be too loud.
Small game hunting-Possibly one of the loudest activities on this list, A 12-gauge shotgun can reach levels of 140dB. The good news is that ear plugs are available with protect your ears from loud impact sounds, but allow you to hear everything else. Electronic shooters plugs are even available to amplify soft sounds.

Golfing-Believe it or not, the "ping" from modern titanium drivers connecting with the golf ball has been recorded as being too loud.
Lawn mowing/power tools-Summer time is a perfect time for home improvement projects. Please be sure to use ear plugs whenever using these lawn mowers or power tools.
