What a Difference One Generation Has Made
A review of how much America has changed in one generation.
As I read my American Patriot’s Bible this morning, I read an account of Apollo 8, the first manned mission to circle the moon. It entered lunar orbit on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1968, forty-two years, or a generation, ago. As I read the account, the thought that it generated powerfully in my mind was “what a devastating difference one generation has made to the life of this nation!” For instance, in that same generation, the U.S. has changed, almost unbelievably, from the world’s largest creditor to the world’s largest debtor; a fact that will probably prove to be our undoing as a nation in the next decade, unless we learn some critically important lessons in record time. In 1968, judging from the account below, we had not yet totally abandoned any relationship with our Creator in our national life; another fact that, unless it is reversed, will surely prove to be our undoing!
Below, is the account from that short time ago. Read it and weep for America.

In The Beginning God….
“…That evening, the three astronauts—Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and William Anders—did a live television broadcast during the ninth lunar orbit, in which they showed pictures of the Earth and Moon seen from Apollo 8. At the time, the broadcast was the most watched TV program ever.

“About six weeks before the launch, a NASA official had called Borman and said, ‘We figure more people will be listening to your voice than that of any man in history. So we want you to say something appropriate.’ Appropriately, the Apollo 8 team ended the broadcast taking turns reading from the book of Genesis.”
William Anders: “We are now approaching lunar sunrise and, for all the people back on Earth, the crew of Apollo 8 has a message that we would like to send to you.” ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light, And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.’”
Jim Lovell: “ ‘And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said. Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.’”
Frank Borman: “ ‘And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.’ And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas—and God bless all of you, all of you on the good Earth.”
Can you imagine our present government allowing those words to be said by NASA astronauts? If they did allow it, can you imagine the outcry from Muslims all over the world? Since our sitting president has declared to the world that America is "no longer a Christian nation,” it is important to ask why many Americans believe that Mr. Obama’s self-serving declaration was wrong. Read what Supreme Court justice David Brewer (1837-1910) said on the subject:
“ [I]n what sense can [America] be called a Christian nation? Not in the sense that Christianity is the established religion or that the people are in any manner compelled to support it. On the contrary, the Constitution specifically provides that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Neither is it Christian in the sense that all its citizens are either in fact or name Christians. On the contrary, all religions have free scope within our borders. Numbers of our people profess other religions, and many reject all. Nor is it Christian in the sense that a profession of Christianity is a condition of holding office or otherwise engaging in public service, or essential to recognition either politically or socially. In fact, the government as a legal organization is independent of all religions. Nevertheless, we constantly speak of this republic as a Christian nation – in fact, as the leading Christian nation of the world.”
According to Justice Brewer, America was “of all the nations in the world . . . most justly called a Christian nation” because Christianity “has so largely shaped and molded it.”
This is a fact that is literally unknown by most Americans today, thanks to the revisionist historians who, through our public education system, have systematically removed from the study of American history any reference to the pivotal role that was played by Judeo/Christian theology and principles in the writing of our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, and in the subsequent formation of our nation.
However, our Founding Fathers were prolific in their descriptions of how they sought wisdom and guidance from the Bible for the design of this nation’s government. For those who may be interested in verifying these facts and learning the truth about our nation’s heritage, an excellent 10 DVD series, called The American Heritage Series, is available from Amazon.com for a very reasonable price. I urge you to educate yourself about our nation’s history so you will be able to recognize what our present Marxist leadership is trying to do to our future. We have less than a year to execute step one of a recovery from our 2008 mistake. Nothing else will succeed until that is accomplished.
