Here are the top five stories in and around Loganville-Grayson today:
- Gwinnett County residents will soon have an easier time getting to Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville. An exit ramp on Ga. 316 will be built at State Route 120 to allow direct access to the hospital from the highway. The project is a joint effort between the Georgia Department of Transportation, the City of Lawrenceville, and Northside Hospital Gwinnett. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful Citizens Advisory Board has announced several new members. Judge Angela Duncan, Santiago Marquez, Shantell Wilson, Kristan VandenHeuvel, Jessica Holden, and Derek Higgs joined the board. The six new members were chosen for the special insight that they can bring to the table. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- Gwinnett County Public Schools are using a new approach to closing students' literacy gap. Teachers are using tools and resources designed for students with dyslexia to teach the broader student base. GCPS hopes the new approach will help reduce the percentage of students reading below their grade level. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- GPS Hospitality has awarded $9,000 in scholarships to Gwinnett County students. GPS Hospitality is a Burger King franchisee operating more than 400 restaurants. - Gwinnett County's population is almost 1 million. The county is just 20,000 residents shy of hitting the monumental population total. The county added almost 13,500 residents last year. The county hopes to invest in affordable housing, transit access, and infrastructure to hit the population goal. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
