Driver Charged With Hitting, Killing South Gwinnett High School Student
A driver fatally hit 16-year-old Camaya Harris in her apartment complex parking lot as she was walking to school, says family.
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The driver who fatally hit a 16-year-old girl while turning into a parking space turned herself in, reported WAGA-TV.
Tami Jackson-Hunter faces charges for homicide by vehicle in the second degree in connection to the death of Camaya Harris. She told police in an incident report obtained by WAGA-TV that she pulled into the parking space in front of an apartment and felt a "bump" but did not see a pedestrian.
The accident happened at 6:15 a.m. Jan. 20 at an apartment complex off Kings Gate Circle in Gwinnett County.

A GoFundMe page set up by her family said Harris was walking to school in the morning of Jan. 20 when a driver hit and killed her at their apartment complex.
Harris was a member of the JROTC at South Gwinnett High School, according to the fundraising page. She was wearing her full uniform dress for her first inspection of the semester.

“Our family is in great need of any assistance for funeral expenses and to bury our lovely daughter, Camaya, who was loved by all who knew her,” the GoFundMe page says. As of Friday morning, the fundraiser has collected more than $14,000 of its $15,000 goal.
A candle light vigil was held on Jan. 23 in honor of Harris.
