Eighteen Georgia Companies Make Fortune 500 List

Eighteen Georgia companies have made the 2016 Fortune 500 list, with some of the usual titans of industry in the state taking the top slots.

Home Depot, founded in 1978 in metro Atlanta, was the Peach State's top entry on the list, coming in at No. 28. The home-improvement superstore brought in $88.5 billion in revenues this year, according to Fortune.

UPS was No. 48, with $58.3 billion in revenues, followed by Coca-Cola (No. 62) with $44.2 billion, Delta Air Lines (No. 68) with $40.7 billion and Columbus-based Aflac (No. 135) with $20.8 billion.

The Fortune 500 is an annual list published by Fortune that ranks 500 of the largest corporations in the United States based on total revenue for their fiscal years.

It includes public companies and private companies for which revenues are made public.

This year is the 62nd running of the list.

In total, Fortune said, Fortune 500 companies represent two-thirds of the U.S. GDP, with $12 trillion in revenues, $840 billion in profits and $17 trillion in market value.

The companies employ 27.9 million people worldwide, Fortune reported.

Nationwide, Walmart, Exxon Mobile, Apple, Berkshire Hathaway and McKesson topped this year's list.

Rounding out the top 10 were UnitedHealth Group, CVS Health, General Motors, Ford Motor and AT&T.
