Good morning, Loganville-Grayson! I'm back with the latest local news and a few ideas for things to do around town for the holidays, or just to entertain you and your family. Here's what's new today:

  • Gwinnett 911 response times will improve with a new geo-location app.
  • A local tree farm donated trees to support military veterans who need help this Christmas.
  • A Gwinnett officer is gunned down on his way into work at local correctional facility.

  1. Gwinnett Emergency Call Center, in conjunction with "What 3 Words," has launched a system for finding people who are not in a location with a listed address but still require emergency services. "What 3 Words" is a geo-location tool that will help improve response time to individuals who may be lost or in an undeveloped location. (MSN.com)
  2. Early Tuesday morning, a Gwinnett Correctional Center Officer was shot and killed outside the at Gwinnett Correctional Center on Hi Hope Road. The detention center is an 800-bed medium-maximum facility, where 59-year-old Officer Scott Riner has worked for 10 years. The police are continuing to investigate as the suspect is still at large, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward, especially anyone with significant dashcam footage.   3. When Gwinnett Fire arrived at a Lawrenceville address Monday night, a man was waving frantically from the second story window of an apartment building. The man was rescued and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The American Red Cross will be helping the residents of the apartment building find housing. (WSB Atlanta)

  • Grayson High School Basketball's Gicarri Harris led the team to a win with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists in Saturday's Hawks-Naismith Classic. The team outrebounded Berkmar 2-1 to overtake the Patriots 67-47. Chad Moodie, Anthony Alston, and Amir Taylor also reached double figures as the Rams go 7-1 on the season. (Gwinnett Prep Sports)
  • Berry's Tree Farm, a local Christmas tree farm in Covington (Berry's Christmas Tree Farm), donated 80 fresh trees to the Trees For Troops program. The goal of the program is to provide trees to troops who may not be able to afford one. Georgia contributes over 800 trees each year to Trees For Troops making it one of the largest donor states in the nation. Visit Berry's to choose your own tree. (Rockdale-Newton Citizen)
