Fake Movie Money Used in Two More Gwinnett Crimes

A pair of suspects bought two used cars with the "For Motion Picture Use Only" bills, police say.

LOGANVILLE, GA — Fake money intended to be used as a movie prop has once again been used in a pair of Gwinnett County robberies, police say.

The phony $100 bills, marked with the words "For Motion Picture Use Only," were used to buy used cars via a mobile app in Loganville and Lawrenceville, according to police.

The crimes come in the wake of an incident at a Buford Walmart, where Gwinnett County Police say three suspects, including a cashier, conspired to purchase $1,000 worth of lawn equipment with the bogus money.

On Sunday, August 14, a victim in Loganville sold his black, 2001 Volkswagen Beetle using the mobile app "5Miles," Gwinnett authorities say. Police say the buyer gave him 13 phony $100 bills for the car -- a fact the victim didn't realize until after the robber had left.

Several hours later, a victim in Lawrenceville sold his grey 2006 Volvo s60 using the same app for $2,000. This time, the buyer gave the victim 20 fake $100 bills.

After the buyer left, the victim's girlfriend noticed that the bills were fake, police say. The Volvo was recovered in College Park.

Police have identified Joseph DeAngelo Lamb, 39, of Atlanta, and Dominic Darnel Mayberry, 21, of Riverdale as suspects in the case.

A police news release said information was found on social media that linked the two men to the crimes.
