Family Displaced By Fire Warns To Check Fuse Box

LOGANVILLE, GA — A family has a serious warning for homeowners after they were displaced from their home after a fire destroyed it last week — check your fuse box.

Loganville firefighters extinguished a fire at Micheal Waters' home on Misty Grove Drive last week. There were no injuries but a family of six were displaced by the fire that originated in the garage.

"[It] appears the fire began in the electrical fuse box in the garage," Waters said in a post to the City of Loganville Facebook page. "Everyone made it out safe. Loganville fireman found our Jack Russell under a bed upstairs scared and hiding but conscious and alert. Thank you to the firemen who arrived so fast and performed exceptionally. Thank you to the Red Cross who arrived quickly and made sure we had anything we needed. Thank you to all of our wonderful neighbors who stopped by with food, money, toys for the kids etc. Thank you to our church the Cross and all the members who have called and offered support. Everyone is safe, material things can always be replaced."

Walters also had a warning for homeowners.

"[The] garage and laundry room are a total loss," he said. "The smoke and water damage is throughout the entire house. Even if you don't have any electrical problems it is never a bad idea to have your panel box inspected. This could have happened at 3 a.m. instead of 3 p.m. and the news story would have been a lot worse."
