Cigarette May Have Caused Loganville Fire That Killed Two
Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.
LOGANVILLE, GA -- Investigators believe a lit cigarette may have caused a house fire in Loganville that killed two people Monday night.
"At this point I am ruling it as an accidental fire,” Loganville Fire Department Capt. Tim Johnson said Tuesday afternoon. "While the investigation remains ongoing, it looks like a lit cigarette is going to be a possible contributing factor to the cause of the fire."
City of Loganville and Walton County firefighters were called to the blaze, at 285 Lee Byrd Road, at 10:13 p.m., according to a news release

Once the fire was under control, investigators say they found two bodies in the home. The victims had not yet been identified Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was so hot it reportedly scorched cars parked behind the house and melted propane tanks.
Firefighters were unable to enter through a door, which was blocked, and eventually made their way into the home through a window, but they had to leave when part of the roof collapsed.
When they managed to get back inside, they discovered the two bodies.
Fire department officials say the bodies were taken to the Walton County Coroner's office Tuesday morning and then to the GBI crime lab for help identifying them.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday afternoon.
