  1. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the wrong name was released in coverage of the shooting that occurred in Gwinnett last week. Law enforcement officials originally named fugitive Henry Parker Whitley as the gunman, but the GBI has named James Edward Perkins, age 34, as the suspect. (Northeast Georgian)
  2. The Gwinnett County Building Brains Anywhere program recently received national recognition from the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials. The program received the 2022 Social Justice Award, which honors programs that aim to better the community. The Building Brains Anywhere program helps support school readiness in children.   3. Cities across Gwinnett County are preparing for Pride Month celebrations at the end of June.   4. The head tennis coach at Georgia Gwinnett College will be stepping down this summer. Chase Hodges will be taking another role within the Grizzlies' Office of Athletics. Hodges is an award-winning coach for the Georgia Gwinnett College team, celebrating his 600th career coaching victory just this past Spring season. The college is actively searching a replacement.   5. Gwinnett Police K-9 Kai walked out of the vet clinic this week after spending a month there recovering from gunshot wounds. Kai is a dual-purpose narcotics and patrol K-9. In May, Kai responded with the Gwinnett Police to an aggravated domestic incident call and was shot twice while chasing the suspect. He's expected to make a full recovery and continue to do physical therapy. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
